A couple of months ago I posted
here an entry speculating on a proposed ban on Internet Gambling. The comments were either, it'll never happen, or I was crazy, or that Boxer, Feinstein, and Kyl would never propose something like that.
Guess what.
Congressman To Propose Internet Gambling Ban. Story
here. The Abramoff scandal has been linked to online gambling. Apparently, Abramoff lobbied to cause Congress not to pass Goodlatte's last ban. I expect this legislation to pass, rather easily. Or possibly the Leach/Kyl bill (Leach has already re-introduced it in the House; Kyl will introduce it in the Senate early in March).
Before I get flamed, please remember that I'd like to see Internet gambling legalized and taxed. I'm just a realist--it's much more likely that we'll see all Internet gambling made illegal before it is eventually legalized. Again, until the negative impacts of an Internet gambling ban are seen (and there are plenty), there is
no chance of Internet gambling made legal. It would not pass either the House or the Senate as long as the South, Utah, and Hawaii are in the Union.
I've been relaxing after doing tax returns by playing donkey poker; er, the $3 nlhe tourney on Stars. Here's an interesting hand for your perusal:
