WSOP Main Event Number

2007 picture
Here are the numbers for 2007, 2008, and 2009:

Day 1A: 1,287 (2007) vs. 1,297 (2008) vs. 1,116 (2009)
Day 1B: 1,541 (2007) vs. 1,158 (2008) vs. ?,??? (2009)
Day 1C: 1,743 (2007) vs. 1,928 (2008) vs. ?,??? (2009)
Day 1D: 1,787 (2007) vs. 2,461 (2008) vs. ?,??? (2009)

Total: 2007: 6,358 vs. 2008: 6,844 vs. 2009 ?,???.

Assuming Days 1B-1D attract the same numbers as last year, that would be a total of 6,663; if the decrease by percentage is the same, then the total would be 5,889. Of course it's possible that the numbers will be up on days 1C and 1D (I doubt they will be on the Fourth of July)....

Only four levels are being played today -- there was a danger that the money might have been reached on Day 2 if that weren't the case.

I'll update this daily. In any case, it's possible that the number will be under the Stimulus Special (the $1,000 buy-in NLHE event that was held on the first weekend).

So knowing the Day 1A number, what's your best guess? Mine is 6,300 (about the number in 2007).

I think C and D will be up, but B will be way down. I like your line of 6300, though I'd take the under.

It appears the under is a very good bet. Jeffrey Pollack said in an interview tonight that they're hoping for 5,000 (about 4,000 are signed up now). I think 5,000 is too low, but Mr. Pollack should be in the position of knowing what's going on.

he's just massaging expectations, its a CEOs main job

I think cutting a level was a terrible decision and they are going to have a HUGE problem on day 2b but we'll see. I just can't see why anyone who doesn't live in vegas would play before 1c so the relative weight of c-d will keep rising until they stop allowing people to choose

oh and i'd take over 6300 but not for a lot

Of course, Mr. Pollack's job is to massage expectations. He wants the number to come in significantly higher than any number he states. I think 5,000 is far too low.

They're also supposedly cutting a level from the day 2's.

I'm still betting the over (and, maybe, over 7,000.
